Term 3, 2013 – News

It’s hard not to let the weather influence your mood… I do love the colder weather and we have had some awesome winter days, although sometimes the rain makes it hard to go outside… But I have been jumping in puddles with my 22 month-old son and having fun in the rain anyway!

We are already four weeks into term 3! Where did those school holidays go?! Well, at least it is good to be back into the routine of school.

Here’s what’s new:

Video – Melbourne Child Psychology

We created a short video for our website! I had to overcome some initial camera fright to get my message across but we are really happy with the end result! I have written more about the experience in this blog post.

Anxiety Clinic

We have decided to compliment our services with a specialised anxiety clinic. We are using an evidence-based program developed by Australian university researchers. It has three levels for kids and teenagers of most ages. Each session is 50 minutes long and children work through the program material individually with one of our experienced psychologists carefully guiding them through every step. We also encourage parents to be fully involved. You can find out more here.

Mindfulness Sessions

We all attended a workshop recently run by Dr Richard Chambers at Wesley College. Since then, I have met with Richard several times and I have developed some child and teen friendly approaches that we can use in sessions. You can read more about this here.

Work-Life Balance

At Melbourne Child Psychology we are all committed to living a positive and balanced life. We have been doing a number of different fitness activities to fight the winter blues.

Deb, Georgie and Regina all take weekly pilates classes at Port Melbourne Physiotherapy just around the corner from our office.

Regina and Georgie both cycle to work. Not only does this make the traffic more manageable, but a great start to the day. Georgie has just finished a successful footy (Aussie rules!) season, making the finals and just missing the semis and Regina is swimming on a regular basis.

Personally, I am running on the beach several mornings a week, roller blading when the sun is out, as well as committing myself to two personal training sessions a week.
