What if it was possible to help children overcome excessive anxiety or worry…without medication…and without “labelling” them with a clinical disorder?
Excessive anxiety causes a lot of pain for kids and parents alike and can lead to a wide range of issues…
From worrying thoughts to sleep problems…
Avoiding school, sports or other activities…
Difficulty concentrating and learning…
…and sometimes even physical symptoms like fatigue, lightheadedness, upset stomachs or vomiting…
And what’s more, if the underlying issues are not addressed, things can worsen over time…
…leading to sadness, withdrawal and less enjoyment of life in general…
(Which is why research evidence strongly supports EARLY intervention or prevention to get the best long term outcomes.)
And the interesting thing?
These children are often quite bright and capable as learners…
They just tend to be on the sensitive side and prone to feeling more stress from everyday challenges…
So early intervention and prevention is therefore vital…
But here’s the good news…
For MOST kids with mild-to-moderate levels of excessive anxiety?
(Especially those bright and sensitive types.)
There’s a LOT that can be done to help…
WITHOUT medication…
And WITHOUT “labelling” kids with a disorder…
It all comes down to using evidence-based approaches and teaching the right skills…
Skills such as:
- Coping strategies and resilience
- Relaxation and mindfulness
- Thinking and problem-solving
- Planning, organisation and time management
- Motivation and goal setting
Skills to deal with everyday challenges at home, school and beyond…
In other words, LIFE SKILLS…
Research shows that children with these skills perform better, feel more in control and are less stressed…

What does counselling involve?
At each counselling session your child will spend time with the psychologist…
(While your child is with the psychologist, you might like to visit one the local cafés or browse the nearby shops in Bay Street…)
At the end of each session you are invited back for a brief summary of what was achieved and what skills need to be practised…
You will also be offered occasional parent-only sessions – if appropriate – to help make sure everyone is on the same page and working towards common goals…

How many sessions are required?
Every child’s situation is individual BUT for most mild-to-moderate anxiety issues we give a realistic expectation of around 6 sessions…
With the first few sessions weekly to quickly get on top of the most pressing challenges…
…and to practice the skills and develop healthy new habits…
And then you can space the sessions out a bit more as things improve…
But the best part?
Once these skills are learned and healthy new thinking habits are formed?
Your child will have these skills for life.
